Who's Worse?
I've been so busy with this HillDog/Annie Oakley and Obama's Ivory tower comments... (oh, that's so deliciously full of irony and wit - maybe I can make it as an AP Writer someday?!) that I haven't been paying attention to everyone's favorite Lame Duck.
US NEWS and World Report speculated that Bush isn't just doin' a heck of a job - he might even be one of the worst Presidents in our history.
"an informal survey of 109 professional historians conducted by the History News Network. It found that 98 percent of them believe that Bush's presidency has been a failure, while only about 2 percent see it as a success. Not only that, more than 61 percent of the historians say the current presidency is the worst in American history."I disagree. There are PLENTY of WORSE Presidents out there.
Let's look at today's news (pops a window), where a certain former US President was refused protection for all the great work he did for their country? That's one hell of a fantastic legacy Mr. Carter!
"Speaking at an event organized by an Israeli financial newspaper, Carter said Monday that he wanted to become a “communicator” between Hamas and the U.S.Good old Jimmy Carter. He's meeting with and actively seeking the job as a mouthpiece of an organization that's mission statement is simply "KILL teh JEWS."
“I hope then the Israeli government will deign to meet with me — they have so far refused,” he said."
But given Jimmy and all his flaws, he's still no where NEAR the WORST President of all time.
Harding is reputed to have said: “I have no trouble with my enemies, but my damn friends, my God-damned friends… they’re the ones that keep me walking the floor nights!”
Yeah, you're a pretty bad politician when you take out your party. Not just out of power -- but from existence.
Hey, what about : Gerald Ford or Jimmy Carter? - while both equally terrible - didn't let the country fall into a Civil War or create a Constitutional Crisis. Bill Clinton? It's been said that he's tarnishing his Presidential legacy while on the campaign trail for Hillary. What legacy? The one where he lied about beejays and being soft on Arab terrorists while being hard as nails with domestic ones (Waco, Texas)? (not Ruby Ridge - that was George H. Bush* Thanks anonymous caller!)
Perhaps worst post-Presidential legacy could be a new list?
Jimmy, I think you're leading the pack!

Batman vs Moses
I haven't mentioned that Chuck Heston died.
Figured better people with more eloquent writing ability would do the job just fine without me. Then a reader sent in this clipping:
"He [Charlton Heston] even got into a war of words with George Clooney back in 2003, when Clooney lamely joked that Heston’s ultra-conservative stance came from Alzheimer’s. Asked if he went too far with his remarks, Clooney said he didn’t care and that, because Heston was the head of the NRA, he deserved “whatever anyone says about him.”Clooney Batman - the one with the nipples- said that he "deserved whatever anyone says about him." That's about as stupid as playing the Batman with nipples!
films... Say what you will about Chuck's ability to read a script - and that string of awesome 70's sci-finever mind he was one of the first white dudes to march with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr... I know you don't understand the second amendment, and think poorly of Chuck because of Michael Moore's editor made you think that you saw him pissing on Colorado after the Columbine massacre...
But Jeeeeezzzeeee... that's low, dude.
Here's the rest of the story

NBC There... Be There!
NBC announced in their upfronts, which is the important unveiling of shows to their most important customers - their advertisers. Here's what we know:
Come fall, four new scripted series are slated:
• "My Own Worst Enemy," a drama starring Christian Slater as a humdrum family man plagued by a Mr. Hyde streak. On first read, I swear I read Mr. Hyde steak... that's comedy. A haunted Muppet steak that... oh, streak? Not so much - just kind of playing yourself there, eh Chris? Welcome to television.
• "Kath & Kim," a mother-and-daughter comedy adapted from an Australian hit and starring Molly Shannon and Selma Blair. NBC has a 9/10 fail on adapting shows from other countries. Terrible odds.
• "Knight Rider," an updating of the 1980s action-fantasy about a man and his robotic car (reintroduced earlier this season as a TV film). And it's been re-tooled so many times - they basically greenlit this thing for title alone. Look for an explanation here, a story called "Did NBC actually see Knight Rider?"
• "Crusoe," based on the classic novel. Lost, but funnier and more racist?
The winter-spring 2009 schedule will introduce four more series:
• "The Philanthropist," a drama about a selfish billionaire who, after a spiritual awakening, will do anything to help people in need. Scrooge, the day after Christmas. No one wants to watch this.
• "Merlin," a fantasy drama set in mythic Camelot. Didn't they do this with Sam Niel? Why not put Merlin in present day and have him on a quest to find King Arthur's heir and then the third season he can start looking for Excalibur, and the fourth they can start looking for the Grail...
• "Kings," described as an "exploration of the timeless David vs. Goliath struggle" and starring Ian McShane ("Deadwood"). Unless Ian's cursing a lot - I could give a rip.
• An as-yet-undescribed comedy spinoff from the producers of "The Office." I'm going to take a guess it'll be something like the "Mailroom" or "Help Desk?" The idea probably seems a lot funnier on paper than the execution.
"ER" will come to an end next season — its 15th.
This year's freshman dramas "Journeyman" and "Bionic Woman" have been axed, as has the long-running "Scrubs," which will finish its run in May.
